Brandy Brooks for Montgomery County At-Large is seeking Power Builders (aka Field & Outreach Organizers) to join the campaign and empower communities across the county to win meaningful change in County Council leadership. The Power Builders coordinate field strategy, manage community canvasses and phonebanks, identifies and develops regional captains throughout the county, helps support fundraising efforts, and provides weekly reporting on voter contact goals and field to the Campaign Manager.

Brandy Brooks is participating in Montgomery County’s Public Election Fund. This program empowers small donors with the opportunity to invest in candidates that speak to their needs and blunts the influence of big money in politics. The primary election for Montgomery County race is June 26, 2018. For Brandy Brooks’ campaign has successfully qualified for matching funds by collecting a minimum of $20,000 from at least of 250 Montgomery County donors. Our campaign goal is to continue and aggressive 5-district outreach strategy that includes deep canvassing opportunities in diverse communities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the day-to-day field operations with field team (including phone banks and canvasses) with a focus on solidifying support in high-turnout areas and recruiting new supporters in underserved areas.

  • Identify and develop strong regional captains to provide leadership in each of our 5 districts; build a team of district organizers to engage supporters, organize events, and canvass for the campaign.

  • Provide quantitative and qualitative weekly reports to the Campaign manager that evaluate our progress on outreach.

Desired Experience:

  • 1-2+ cycles of paid field experience

  • Proficiency with VAN, NGP, Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Spanish, Chinese, Amharic, or French language proficiency a plus

  • County residents or individuals with strong knowledge of the county preferred

Skills & Needs

  • Positive attitude, creativity & initiative

  • Commitment to principles of relational organizing and to building power with multi-ethnic, multi-racial communities & coalitions

  • Ability to build and manage a team of volunteers and interns

  • A valid driver’s license & reliable transportation

  • Ability & willingness to work evenings and weekends, and devote long hours when necessary

  • Access to a computer and ability to communicate with campaign team on a regular basis is required

Compensation: The campaign has part-time (20-25 hours/week) and full-time (salaried) positions available. Pay starts at $15/hour.

Brandy Brooks for Montgomery County At-Large is seeking 1-2 self-motivated canvassers to engage in community conversations in neighborhoods across  Montgomery County. Each canvasser will be assigned an area and is responsible for meeting weekly campaign targets. Canvass positions run through June 26, 2018.

Desired Skills & Needs:

  • Experience with miniVAN or similar mobile technology

  • Knowledge of VAN, NGP, Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Spanish, Chinese, Amharic, or French language proficiency a plus

  • Positive attitude and willingness to work outside

  • Comfortable speaking to different types of voters door to door

  • Ability to take clear notes and provide regular updates to campaign team
  • A valid driver’s license & reliable transportation

  • Access to a computer and ability to communicate with campaign team on a regular basis is required

Compensation: $15/hour 

Hours: 35 hours / week
