PRESS RELEASE: Brandy Brooks Endorsed by Metro DC DSA

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD (January 15, 2018) — Brandy Brooks, at-large candidate for Montgomery County Council, has received the endorsement of the Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Ms. Brooks’ endorsement was voted on and approved at the Metro DC DSA chapter General Meeting on Sunday, January 14, 2018. The chapter also endorsed at-large candidates Danielle Meitiv and Chris Wilhelm, and County Executive candidate Marc Elrich.

This is Brandy Brooks’ first campaign endorsement. Brooks, a democrat, is a DSA member and active within the local Montgomery County branch. The Metro DC DSA chapter has approximately 1,200 members that are ready and eager to mobilize for progressive candidates. In Virginia, the chapter knocked on nearly 20,000 doors and made over 1,000 phone calls for Lee Carter, who was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates and defeated Jackson Miller, the Republican House Majority Whip.

“I’m honored and excited to receive the endorsement of the Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America,” said Brooks. “I believe strongly in everyday people being able to freely and democratically set the vision for their government and community. That is the essence of the participatory governing strategy I will bring to elected office. On core issues of economic, social, and racial justice, we must also recognize how capitalism and corporate influence on our policies and politics negatively impacts our people, our planet, and our communities.”

Brooks is committed to fair elections and is participating in the new public financing system in Montgomery County. She is an activist, educator, facilitator, and designer who has spent more than 10 years working on social and environmental justice. Brooks is the Leadership Development Organizer for Progressive Maryland, a statewide nonprofit advocacy organizing promoting social, economic, and racial justice.

The Democratic Primary is June 26, 2018.
